On a Dark and Stormy Night…

Actually, it’s a rather hot and dry night tonight, and I’ve been setting up this blog while hiding in complete darkness from the 38C day. It’s something I’ve been meaning to do for awhile. I’ve been writing reviews on goodreads for the last four or so years, and rambling about books for the last twenty one or so. (Okay, well maybe the last twenty, but I’m sure books were on the mind before I could work out how to speak). Now I’m trying my hand at doing this officially.

I should introduce myself. It feels weird to do this in blog format, but if you’ve somehow missed the ‘About Me’ page,

I’m Aimee, I’m 21. I’m currently studying biomedicine/something* at Monash University.  (*More on this later)

Studying biomed contributes quite a bit to my being a science fiction nerd. It also influences what I write quite a bit… (genetics classes have shaped my WIP like you would not believe).

I’ve been writing, like most writers, since I worked out that crayons weren’t just for eating, and I’ve been reading since, well, I worked out that books weren’t just for eating (Sorry to the squeaky bunny board book I tried to devour).

My WIP is full of circuses and genetic modification and also maybe a little dash of found families. If I haven’t talked your ear off (eyes out?) then you can find out more through my website or pinterest or by asking me.

I’ve lived all over the place. For awhile there we used to move every two and a half years, and when I started seventh grade it was at my sixth school. #ThirdCultureKidLife

I drink a lot of tea. It’s 38C and I’ve still had about three thermoses of tea today. Writing this reminds me I should probably check the kettle, because if I haven’t boiled it yet, the day probably has.

I enjoy procrastinating. I mean, I must, given how much I do it.

(Also I’m not good at the fast bit of fast facts)

Why subscribe?

I’m an avid reader, I read quite fast and I have lots of opinions. This blog is my attempt to curb my procrastinating sharing these opinions, and also to share them (because that’s what they’re best for right?). I read a lot of YA, and because I also write YA I tend to keep up with all the trends and tropes. I practically live in my local library, and have started to get approvals (!) on Netgalley, so I’m reading both new and old.

Also sometimes I’m funny? Usually unintentionally, but we can look out for those moments together.

What to expect?

Well as above – rambling reviews of YA new and old. Lots of science fiction and contemporary. A few rants because what blog is complete without rants. (Also my friends, I think, are quite sick of listening to me hash out my problems chapter by chapter).

But, in the immediate future, I’ve got a little bit of a backlog of those goodreads reviews that I’m going to try and get over here. I’m probably going to spam like… ten at once, and then we’ll go from there. Outside of my backlog well I’ve got an ARC of Tempests and Slaughter sitting waiting for a review, and a copy of Warcross on my bedside table. Oooh and of course I’ve got Crooked Kingdom. I’ve really got to get reading…

Also if you guys are interested, I might do some lists and round ups? Writing updates? I’m not sure, to be honest, I guess I’m going to play it by ear. I’m not even sure if anyone will read this, but if you do, and you’re interested:

What do you want to see from my blog? Do you have any thoughts or suggestions for what I should blog about next? Read next? I wanna hear it all! (but like, nicely and calmly ahaha)
